We offer high quality, evidence-informed learning opportunities – for mental health and medical health professionals, direct service workers, educators and first responders – to advance best practices in mental health care. We work with expert facilitators to offer programming that is responsive to our learners’ professional interests and educational requirements and supports the emerging needs of their mental health clients. We offer training for professionals who work with clients of every age, across the lifespan.
SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health Learning Institute (SickKids CCMH LI) is a part of The Garry Hurvitz Centre for Community Mental Health at SickKids and the SickKids Learning Institute.

Since the onset of COVID-19, we have successfully pivoted to an online learning platform, creating a virtual classroom.
Our multidisciplinary team of expert facilitators are all highly regarded professionals in the field and many hold academic appointments. Program curriculum is informed by peer-reviewed academic journals and studies and is reinforced through experience.
We offer live programming to ensure that our participants have an interactive, responsive and engaged learning experience. Our programs incorporate breakout rooms, small group discussions, case scenarios and simulations to create a rich learning environment that facilitates effective transfer of knowledge.
Combining thought leadership with practical application, our virtual learning experiences are designed to improve client outcomes.
We offer digital certificates with all of our programs and include CEU hours where applicable. We have approval from the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) for participants of our programming to apply the number of CE hours earned in the program(s) towards their continuing education hours. Other licensing boards and professional organizations will grant continuing education credits for attendance at their own discretion; participants will need to submit the course outline and certificate for their consideration.
Through social platforms, we create private networking groups to facilitate ongoing dialogue between program participants (certificate programs only).
We solicit input from our advisory board members, community partners and you – our learners – to ensure we are delivering in-demand topics informed by published scientific evidence. Request a topic here.
Our facilitators are valued members of the Learning Institute community. Joining us from within and outside of the SickKids enterprise, most of our facilitators have been with us for many years. Together, we are building the skills and knowledge within the mental health care provider community, helping to build capacity and advance best practices.
Most of our learners are repeat customers – many come back to attend other sessions delivered by their favourite facilitators. After participating in our programs, learners report a greater breadth and depth of required knowledge along with increased confidence to support their clients.
